Writing is hard.
Robert Caro is considered one of the greatest biographers of the modern times. He is a meticulous investigator who handwrites all of his work before typing it up on a typewriter. There is even an adjective, "Caro-esque", which describes an author who does extensive research. Do you know how many books Caro has written?
Three.
The first is "The Power Broker", about (previously-profiled) Robert Moses, the urban planner for New York City. It won the Pulitzer in 1975.
The second is "The Years of Lyndon Johnson", which also won the Pulitzer... even though it's not exactly finished. Caro wrote the first volume in 1982, the fourth in 2012, and is still working on his fifth, with the manuscript at 1000 pages. (This would bring the total count to over 4000.)
The third is "Working", a rather slim memoir about... writing.
